Writing a quality curriculum vitae is an essential step in helping you find a position as a dental associate. Like a resume, CVs detail a job candidate’s experience, accomplishments, skills, and other information that will help them appeal to a hiring manager. Without a strong and effective CV, standing out from the competition can be challenging. To help you make a good impression and land the job you’re after, follow these curriculum vitae writing tips for dentists.

Only include relevant information in your CV

While there is no set limit, most CVs are around one to three pages long. As such, you only have a limited amount of space on your CV to make a good impression. It is important to use such space wisely and avoid filling it up with any information that isn’t directly related to the job for which you’re applying. For example, you can leave out any information about part-time jobs you had in high school or unrelated hobbies that you possess. Such information is unlikely to increase your chances of being offered the job and, as such, shouldn’t take up valuable space on your CV. If you have a limited amount of relevant experience, it is better to expand upon the experience that you do have rather than to simply fill space with unnecessary information that will only distract from your qualifications.

Put the most important information at the top

When it comes to writing a quality CV, don’t burry the lead. You should always place the most important information—such as education and relevant work experience—at the top of your CV. If you have multiple different work experiences, list your most recent experiences at the top and your older ones in chronological order toward the bottom. After detailing the most pertinent information, you can then include sections on your relevant skills, awards you received, shadowing experience, and other qualifications.

Make your CV visually appealing

How your CV looks can be almost important as the information on it. If your CV appears disorganized or difficult to read, it might not get a second glance. As such, you should choose easy-to-read fonts such as Times New Roman, Calibri, or Georgia rather than flashy or swirly fonts. In addition, you should also make sure that your CV is well organized by using bullet points or numbers to arrange information in an orderly manner. Lastly, you should utilize a healthy amount of white space rather than filling the entire page with text. Doing so will help break up the information and make your CV easier to read.
